Why is the UK summer weather poor this year?

Seems to rain everyday and blue skies are a distant memory. Last year was similar and that was blamed on the Jet Stream. Same reason this year?

I know i was wishing that this years summer would be great but its not we seem to have a few nice days then thunder!! it Global Warming wish it would warm up!!

Hmm, I'm not sure you are entirely correct about the weather being particularly poor this Summer.  Historically Britain has never been blessed with great Summer weather due to our notoriously variable climate.  

It is true that rainfall was well above average for most areas of the UK last month but sunshine in most areas was generally close to average.  Mean temperatures were in fact close or above average in most areas.  

If we go back to May at the start of Summer temperatures were actually above average and it was provisionally the warmest May on record since 1914!  Rain and sunshine in this month varied from below average to above average depending on where you lived in the country.  

You are correct though that last Summer rainfall was consistently above average throughout the Summer.  

Based on the above I think the reason why the weather has been so bad this Summer is merely becuase British people have perceived it that way.  If you look at it statistically it is only the rain that has been slightly above average and even that wasn't for the whole of the country.

Our highly variable climate is due to a number of features and not just the gulf stream.  I personally find our weather forecasts here to be some of the most informative in the world so if you want to know more about the weather systems that affect our great nation I would start with the in depth forecast that comes on the BBC at about 10pm after the main evening news.

Britain hasn't had a decent summer since 2003 and 2006 Britain needs a summer like 2003 and 2006 again

It's only rained about three times with bright sunshine other times inthe last 3 weeks where I am and even today, although it's cloudy, it is still very warm.

You are right we are having another cool, wet summer but although occasionally we have a very hot summer or very cold winter that is the exception rather than the norm and here's why

I don't know where in theuk you are but it's not been that bad, OK it's not been really hot ans sunny all the time, but  we have had hot days even without the sun. and we have had enough really sunny hot days too. don't expect a lot, it's never been brilliant.
