Why is the US Olympics team having criminal celebrities like Kobe B. representing us?

Aren't the Olympics about amateurs struggling against the odds beating other amateurs from around the world? Not ultra-rich hood thugs with violent sexual proclivities beating up on starstruck third world sycophants?

"amateurs struggling against the odds beating other amateurs"  ???? really, i thought it was about competition and being the best. if other countries have pros playing then i think we should too.  it doesnt matter that kobe is a loser off the court.... hes great at basketball and whants to bring the honor of gold home for his country! thats what matters...trust me there are some real dirt bags from other countries there too!

edit.... LOL, if norway invades us, ill show them a beating.  I think you are forgetting how many players in the NBA are foreign these days.  its not like the nba all-star team vs. a high school.  these teams have NBA players and euro players.  and we wont just crush them this year like you think...watch.  and furthmore i think you are forgetting the 70's and 80's where we killed everyone without NBA players cause the other countries were so bad at b-ball.  look at the history. the only year we didnt metal was the year we refused the silver because of a crazy finish with the russians.  look it up, the final play was played three times until the russians won.  The players took it so personally that many wrote in their wills no to except the silver post-humorously!
