Why is the US open playoff being played on Monday instead of continuing it on Sunday like they normally would?

  1. Yeah, they play a full 18 hole playoff in the U.S. Open.  They don't have time to play it today.


  2. It's an 18 hole playoff so it would be dark before it ended.  That's why it is tomorrow.

  3. all tournaments used to be 18 hole playoffs the next day. The US Open is the last tournament that kept it this way. Some do a modified version of the 18 holes rather then a sudden death. For example, the British Open does a 4 hole playoff

  6. USGA tournaments....the US Open, the ladies US Open, etc....all have 18 hole playoffs. It's a USGA tradition.

  7. The US OPEN has always made a tradition of an 18 hole playoff the Monday following the final round. It is differrent than all the other tournaments in which a sudden death playoff usually takes place on Sunday.

    The US Open has always had an 18 hole playoff the following day. It has nothing to do with television or being on the west coast.

  10. it's an 18 hole playoff.  since they're playing on the west coast it wouldn't be over until almost 1 am on the east coast and nobody would be awake to watch it.  it's a ratings and money making thing.

    B. Since they were playing on the West Coast, if they would just have kept on playing their rating would have bottemed out because it would have finished at 1 or 2 in the morning.

    It would not have mattered who was plaing in the playoff phil or tiger they still would have played it tommorrow (Monday)
