Why is the World Baseball Classic every 3 years?

Seems a little strange when World Cup, Olympics, etc. are every 4 years.

Nobody knows.  Even the people who created the Baseball Classic won't give you a straight answer.

The three-year gap from 2006 to '09 has been intended to be a one-time interim; plans call for the WBC to assume a four-year schedule starting with the 2009 tournament.

Tradition? There has only been one!

Baseball just did not want to be like the others I guess. The baseball "classic" has a ways to go to be compared to the World Cup or the Olympics I think.

But as a baseball fan, I will look forward to that happening. And actually, after 2009, it will be every four years.

Probably has something to do with not intefering with the olympics or other events.
