own a 2005 f-250 4x4,power-stroke diesel. has 59k. bought brand new. the abs light is coming on and going off at random. when it is on and we drive any distance, when we stop the right rear brake is almost smoking hot yet the left is normal. pulled the wheels and checked brake pads, plenty of life left. still under warranty but haven't got to the dealer yet. want to know what's up and why before i go in. thanks for any help, scott

  1. abs light on and off,,there is a problem,on your brake , which is usually related to what you are experiencing now,,only a tester could truelly  tell anyway..

rear wheel smoking hot ,,,they will most likely replace your caliper and pads on the smoking side

  2. First, check your fluid level. Low brake fluid can cause an intermittant abs light. Second, the parking brake is a drum brake system. If you pull off tthe rear rotor you will find a set of brake shoes and also, you will see that the inside of the disc is actually a brake drum for the parking brake. The rear parking brake shoes may be worn out and causing this rear brake concern. Third, the most common wear item on the abs system on this vehicle is the front wheel speed sensor, which wouldn't have anything to do with your rear brake concern but it is possible that you have 2 unrelated brake conditions occuring at the same time...
