  1. It's just there...part of his scheme this year in the 88 car.

  3. Dale Jr. actually designed that car and the black came from the paint job of the Corvette he raced, that car had a black rear bumper too.

  4. That is exactly the reason why. When Dale Jr and his dad use to race corvettes the back of the vettes were painted black. When Jr designed his car it was in tribute and in memory of those times.

    Also the reason he chose to use the basic 2 tone paint scheme of his car was also a tribute to some of the older body paint styles from the good old days.
