Why is the bahmas water such a beautiful light blue?

i just come from vacation there and i wanna know why they water is such a beatiful light blue. my friend told me its because their water is cleaner than ours

  1. When I lived in Hawaii, where the water is very blue and clear, I was told that it is so because it is a desert. There is very little plankton or living organisms to cloud the water.

    I'll google and see if he was right. Yes, it seems they are clear because they have low chlorophyll concentrations.


  2. The fundamental reason that water in the tropics has more clarity than water in more temperate zones is that the tropical water has less life in it.  Warmer water dissolves less oxygen, and, therefore supports less life, both microscopic and macroscopic.  Colder water, such as found on the Pacific Coast of California, where I have dived, is much less clear because it has the ideal temperature for higher oxygen concentration as well as enough sun for photosynthesis, which produces the oxygen in the first place.  The clarity is mostly related to the concentration of zooplankton and phytoplankton.

  3. No I think maybe cause they have whiter sand and its not as deep???
