Why is the centriole can only be found in animals?

  1. we don't know. the cell plate does the job that other cytoskeletal structures do in animal cells, in squeezing the post-mitotic cell in two (cytokinesis) - not the job of the centriole. the thing is that we don't know exactly what the centriole does, for the simple reason that plant cells don't have them and go through mitosis no problem. circular reasoning to some extent, yes, so I return to the first sentence.


  2. In plants, the cell plate does the work of the centriole. Animals don't have that, and thus centrioles do it... I guess that's how nature is
