Why is the cloth on pool tables different colours?

Snooker is green but pool tables seem to have ,red,blue or green

So you know you're not playing snooker.

Billiards came first.  Tables were covered in baize which was a hard wearing cloth used for furnishing and lining carriages.  It was usually died green.  Since billiards was regarded as a table-top version of croquet, they used green baize to be the same colour as lawn.

Then along came pool.  That is nothing like croquet so any colour of baize will do.  Blue was the most popular colour, but then the Americans started playing the game.

Snooker came last - but it was (and still is) played on a billiards table.  OK Because snooker is more popular, we call them snooker tables, but it's exactly the same - including the colour.

Probably an american idea just to be different as green was the original colour :)***
