Question:

Why is the competition so one sided this year?

In previous years the competition was very even - the draft brought about that. But this year it seems that the top teams - Geelong, Hawthorn, Bulldogs, Sydney - I'll pass judgement on Collingwood and Adelaide later - are performing much better than the rest. And the top four could probably already be decided this weekend.

  1. this happens every few years with any comp that has a salary cap.

it takes time to build a good team, you have them for a while, then they slowly drift away and the cycle starts again

  2. I thought that this year was a really exciting year of football. Nobody knows who the premiers are going to be out of those four sides you mentioned, so it's still competitive and exciting. At least this year isn't like 2007, where after half way through the season we all knew Geelong would win the flag. There is plenty of competition for the top 8, with Carlton, St.Kilda, Port and Kangaroos still all capable of playing finals. I think it's great to see such a classic year of footy =)

  3. Yeah Mate but at least it ain't done and dusted, really there are 5-6 who could win the flag,  we couldn't say that last year, it was geelong all the way with daylight a distant 2nd.

Brisbane with a finals berth and a good draw in the finals might sneak up on every one, they are going along ok at present, the kanga's had a shocker last week, they will be up there too.    seriously,  i think it's wide open this year.  anyway, every year the league only has a few who can be considered contenders so it's nothing new,  the teams outside the 8 are only just outside too.  i don't see much changing in the way of the 8 but who knows, if we beat port tomorrow, then beat Carlton, west coast and ess which has about a 60% chance of happening then who knows.

  4. the competition was one sided last year, with geelong dominating. but this year isnt one sided at all. there are plenty of teams who can take the cup. i love this season

  5. It is not one sided.

There are 8 matches involving sixteen sides this weekend!

  6. Well I dunno, but, being a Doggies supporter, I LOVE IT!!! Roll on September!

  7. All i can say is go the CROWS!! my boys are gonna kick *** this weekend

  8. **I don't really agree that the competition is one sided this year.  Sure there are a few teams who we know will play a big role in the finals (Geelong, Hawthorn, Bulldogs) and we know at least Melbourne, Essendon and West Coast aren't going to make the finals but the rest of the teams still have a chance at making the eight.

Keep in mind that some teams will start to get tired towards the end of the season and all that has to happen is one team gets a few injuries, especially to key players and you never know what could happen.

After half way through last season it wasn't a question of whether Geelong would play in the Grand Final, but who they would be playing and there were several teams who were a chance to make it to the Grand Final**

  9. well we all know Hawthorn are on drugs.......

  10. all i can say is "GO DOGGIES!!!"

  11. its not
