  1. its a whole bunch of things.  The high fuel prices is one reason why everything is getting more expensive.  There is a higher demand for food than what is currently being produced.  The value of the dollar is getting low and when that happens, everything gets that much more expensive.  But the saddest part is, the foods that are getting the most expensive, are staple foods for poor people.  Like for example grains like rice and wheat are really expensive and if u go to any third world country u'll find that thats all they eat.  Pretty much people being affected by this the most (and i mean going to sleep with an empty belly) are the poor people.

  2. Food prices have risen dramatically recently probably due to the high prices of the barrel of oil.  I am thinking of purchasing a bread maker fed up paying high prices for a loaf of bread.

Even considering a cow but don't have the room.

  3. It's because city traders have nothing left to sell off and are selling much of our crops to giant nations like China who are gobbling up world resources by the day.

People will always need food - so it is more important than gold, diamonds and any other commodity.

  4. ANNA  You have not seen nothing yet my dear Just wait until

next year @ least from Chrismas on word. then I will here you halla!. AKA cry

  5. Fuel has hit an all time time high,

If it costs more to ship the food to our supermarkets, they will put the extra cost on the price of our food,

  6. Beacuse farmers are diverting resources to grow oil for bio fuel pushing food prices up.

High prices of food are merely an inconvenece to you and me, but there are millions of people around the world who can no longer afford the food.  All because we want to save the envinronment and use bio fuel instead of oil.

  7. my food bills has gone up dramatically. i blame the cost of fuel.

  8. the price of grain is rising due to the fuel crisis, more expensive grain means more expensive meat.

  9. Basically in the UK food prices have been at an all time low for a number of years.

A lot of the price cuts were driven by the big supermarkets competing with each other.

The growing middle class in China and India are demanding a diet that contains more meat and in particular beef.

this has led to land being turned from arable crops to meat production.

There has also been the increased speculation on commodities by traders as a reaction to the credit crunch and as an alternative to falling property prices.

Mind you it could be a lot worse the proportion of wages spent in this country is a lot lower than in parts of the developing world, hence food riots.

Bio fuels are only responsible for less than 2 % of grain use in the world at the moment by the way.

It's also been predicted that they will be a bumper crop this year as across the world farmers are growing wheat due to the high price.

Expect a glut and, hopefully falling prices.

  10. Because of gas..it cost a lot to ship it to the stores..so thats why the say its best to get local foods.

    Best answer??

  11. 1. Increased demand from a more wealthy Asia.

    2. Increased transportation costs due to higher oil prices.

    3. Demand on agriculture caused by US subsidy of bio fuel production.

    4. Too many mouths to feed!

  12. Because the transporting of food costs have risen so high. The super markets must make their profits. The EU makes such stupid rules about size and weight of vegs that masses of stuff has to be thrown away.

  13. Mostly, to pay for the cost of processing, shipping etc which involves mostly energy.  Energy costs are skyrocketing!  But also because of the demands of globally developing countries, who are now eating food.  Thus begins the competition for less food for more people.  And then there is the bidding up of these commodities on the exchanges by pension funds who have no intention of taking delivery of the food!

Greed is in that formula somewhere.....sad.

Hopefully, food production will eventually outpace the demand and prices will drop!

  14. That way we can reduce the population of earth by making sure only the people with resources can eat.

    Survival of the fittest.

  15. Fuel increase!!!

  16. it all comes down to iraq again.  Oil is up because of threats to the supply (american, australian and british soldiers).  Gas is up because Oil is up.  Shipping costs are up because gas is up.  Food is up because shipping costs are up.

  17. GREED.

    THE REST IS PROPAGANDA.

  18. 1. Rising fuel prices caused by increased demand in India and China because of rapid industrialisation. Also speculation in oil futures.

    2. Increasing demand for food in India and China coupled to Chinese and Indians adopting a more Westernised diet. And again speculation in the futures markets for commodities like wheat and rice.

  19. It is a supply-demand imbalance.  Mostly due to world wide demand for energy and protein in the New China and the New India.  We are talking about an extra 600 million middle class people bidding for energy and food.  It is called, by some economists, demand push inflation.

  20. Because the demand for food increases. For example, lots of people buy coca cola so the coca cola company increase their prices so they can make more profit. If not many people buy a certain product, then the price will go down until loads of people buy the product, then the price will go up.

  21. The REAL reason is that many farmers around the world, stopped growing food and grew bio-fuel plants instead. They did this because government grants are available, making it more profitable than food growth. The false reasons are increase in china and india and various bad weather around the world.

The subsidies have been removed and many farmers are now growing wheat again. The WFA predicts a glut of wheat production by year end.Nothing, though ever go back down to the original price, due to greed. We in England eat far too much though. It really hurts for families in poor countries like Cuba, etc

  22. 100 quid! You're doing well with that. I spend at least double but then again I do live in the rip off republic.
