  1. Taxes I would guess. Plus Australia pays GST on tax so tax on tax. Note sure if NZ has similiar tax rates.

  2. Diesel (LOOKS) cheaper in NZ than Aussie, but they also have to pay a road user tax - (so much per 1000km) which they have also have to buy. So add those two up and its about the same amount per litre.

NZ Petrol reached $2.03 per litre today - that's about $1.71 AU  so we are still better off !

  3. Australia is only paying $1.40-$1.50 a litre for fuel.

This site will give you an idea of the breakdown in the pricing of petrol.. Look on the right side http://www.shell.com.au/petrolpricing_sc...

  4. only diesel is more expensive in oz then nz, in nz petrol is remarkabley more expensive, but the reason for the difference of price in diesel between countrys is because in new zealand you pay for the gas and also have to pay so much to the govt every couple of times a year per km if you own a diesel vehicle, so it works out being about the same price, hope this helps

  5. Over 40% of the cost of fuel in Australia is tax.  A while ago a service station near Jindabyne used to separate out the tax component as a separate amount.  They don't do it any more, but it was interesting while it was happening.
