Why is the cost of living in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti is very high???

Is farming not available in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti? Raising hogs, chickens, etc... for food? Why do people in that place is Hungry?

  1. There are many poor caribbean island, but Haiti is the poorest. Haiti relies on farming to bring in money, but they suffer from natural disasters like hurricanes that sometimes wipe out their crops. Also the farmers usually export their goods to other countries because they will earn more for it than in their own country. Hait has very high inflation too & many goods have to be imported to caribbean islands which costs more. Most people dont have an education & are not skilled laborers so its hard to obtain jobs. They dont have good infrastructure or technology & the economy is bad in general.


  2. I'd have to say World Trade Organisation and bad Free Trade deals that were signed with the developed nations.  That country needs to tear up those agreements and charge taxes again on imports even if to protect their local farmers.....

    Personally I think Haiti should roll out socialism like Cuba.. In Cuba they haven't had to starve their people or eat dirt...  It's a very unfortunant situation in Haiti...
