Why is the country Chile called that? It does look like a chili pepper though.?

  1. I used to think it looks like a chilli but then i grew up.


  2. The name was given to the region by the Incas and the first Spanish conquistadors heard it from the Indians of the Inca empire after the fall of Cuzco. Were the Incas got it from is up for debate. Some say it was a deformation of the name of the chieftain of the Araucanian that stopped the expansion of the Incas in the South, Tili. Others say it is a Mapuche word that means "were the earth ends" (chilli).

  3. It does not look like a chili pepper.  Google the reason.
