  1. Colorado is one of the few mountain states which shows a possibility of going Democratic in a general election.  Putting the convention there is an attempt by the Democrats to try to get the state to turn.  This is the same kind of reasoning used by the Republicans in putting their convention in Minnesota.

  2. Part of a Democratic strategy to be more competitive in western states that do not border the Pacific Ocean.

  3. Hundreds of kegs of Coors

  4. No real political motive, actually. Choosing the convention host city, for both parties, is similar to choosing the Olympic host city. The DNC had originally invited over 30 cities to bid for the right to host the convention. Of those, only eleven accepted the invitation. Of those eleven, only three then submitted formal proposals. One of the three was Minneapolis-St. Paul, which was bidding for both parties' conventions. The Republicans chose them before the Democrats made their decision, leaving just Denver and New York. New York's mayor basically announced that we didn't have the money available to host it, so it basically went to Denver by default.

  5. I sort of agree; Chicago might be a better place; it's a liberal stronghold and a lot bigger and possessed of more goods, services, and people than Denver.
