  2. The dollar gets weaker or stronger depending on a variety of factors, all economic.....the strength of the nation's economy, the effect of other nations' economic downturns which are interlinked due to the global market.

    Imagine, times are now that decisions made in Nepal could effect things on the other side of the world because of globalisation...oh well

One contributing factor that I can think of is that the fed is lowering interest rates.  When you lower interest rates, people borrow more for investment which makes the economy more liquid.  When there is extra money chasing the limited amount of goods and services in the economy, the result is inflation.  Inflation has to do with the value of the medium of exchange.  And when there is inflation, the value lowers and thus becomes weaker.
