Question:

Why is the drinking water in the door of my fridge not cold?

we just got a "new to us" side by side Hot point 25 cubic foot refrigerator/freezer, approx five years old. The people that had it never hooked up the water to run the ice maker nor the drinking water due to no water line where they had it. It works great, but the water is not cold. The first glass is, but then it runs room temp, like it is coming straight from the wall. All we did is hook the tubing in the back to our line in the wall. Is there some kind of connection to fill up a reservoir to chill the water? Or is there a switch? We do not have the owners manual, but I pulled it online and it is of no help (except to call a plumber, which is not happening considering it is not THAT bothersome and the fridge was free!).

Any suggestions?

thanks

  1. the water runs through a coil of tubing in the fridge, when you get a glass of water it removes the cold water and replaces it with fresh and needs time to cool down

a pitcher of water inside the fridge works great for me

  2. the instructions with the refrigerator states... water from the dispenser will be warm and to empty the first two or three glasses, this is due to not being used all the time and the other reason is the hose from the cooling coil is not inside the refrigerator but on the bottom and the line is room temp until you run water thru the line from the cooling loop.. in short just dump the first couple of glasses of water.
