Why is the electron diffraction pattern of a carbon graphite circular? shouldn't it be hexagonal?

  1. Graphite consists of many microscopic crystals in random orientations. If one crystal has a hexagonal diffraction pattern, then millions of them mixed randomly will will have a circular pattern.
