If someone is searching for something and they find your page you have got about 20 seconds to sell your site before they hit the back button to where they came from.

You need your first page to outline exactly what your site does and you need to show how easy it is to use. Navigation and not having massive amounts of endless text are major factors and can make or break a website. Look at Google. Simple and to the point!
