Because our gas stations have us by the balls. They know we'll pay for it, whether it's 4.23$ or if its 4.43$. b******s.

And who is the government to tell anyone they are not worthy enough to buy gasoline to get to work in the morning. I'm afraid you have your facts crooked. It's the wealthy, that can afford the acceleratingly prices, who waste that sh*t on expensive gas-guzzlers, like hummers just for strolls to show off one of their toys.

--I only really read the part where you said I was insane, but how are you going to tell me that if there are two competing gas stations, one gas station will not lower the price by one cent so that more people come to them? Granted this works against my favor, but you're trying to tell me that its a supply and demand thing and they aren't behind the prices. I'd say Aaron hits it on the head.

When is profit bad?  $40 billion seems high...but Exxon also had over $350 billion in expeditures (yeah, the other side of the ledger).  You're only looking at around 10% profit.  My company made almost 15% in pre-tax profit, should my company be slammed by libs for "windfall profits"

Anyone saying oil companies are behind high prices are insane....supply and demand are behind high oil prices. 70% of the price per gallon of gas has to do with the price per barrel of oil. The BIG OIL companies make about 7% proffit from every gallon of gas, but they also do the most work to find the oil, drill it and get it out, then transport it, refine it and deliver it to the customers....so if they do all the let work and only make 8% proffit, why are they to blame when every person in this country plus the rest of the modern world uses gas?

Why don't we get more upset w/our government who makes 15-25% in taxes per gallon of gas sold in taxes and then fail to keep our roads in good condition...then built toll roads to collect more taxes to "fix the roads".....the problem with oil is this;

The weak dollar makes investing in oil attractive if you're from a foriegn country...it's a nice hedge because the oil you buy w/Euro's is worth more, you're buying more for the same money every time the dollar drops.

China and India and other rapidly developing nations are competing for the same supply that was available 5 years ago...OPEC fails to realize we need more production but then again, if you were making $130 per barrel when you used to make $35, would you be in any hurry to cut your own proffits?  

As I've mentioned before, taxes suck. If we cut state and federal taxes on gas $4 per gallon would turn into  $3.15 per gallon...that's a real savings over a year's time.

So there you have it....drill in ANWAR, drill off the coastline, get the tar sands and oil shale out... with strict agreements that the oil extracted only goes to the USA and we'd make a dent in the Supply problem....remove taxes from drivers and put some pressure on OPEC to up production and you're now paying $2.25 again.

Your question is: If we remove taxes where do they get the money to fix the roads....the answer....cigarettes, alcohol, p**n sales.

Don't let anyone tell you we are running out of oil because it's not true, Alaska has nearly if not more oil than Saudi Arabia, but most of it is capped, and the same thing applies to most other countries, it's pure greed. of course it's a conspiracy.

gas prices are rising coz we are having SHORTAGE of petrol its not that petrol is finished. scientists have foun a pecular gas in the andaman and nickobar islands which can take place of crude oil in future. so we are not actually RUNNING OUT of petrol but the government has done right by increasing the prices of crude oil coz there are certain ppl who waste such useful products unnecersarly.............
