  1. It is available to Military personnel, and Law Enforcement only in the U.S.*

  2. We have gun laws that restrict so-called "Saturday Night Specials", ie cheap guns that aren't suited for targets, from import.  The frames melt below a certain temp (usually means it's a cheap zinc alloy gun which it was intended to stop, but plastics got stopped by the same rule), they have non-adjustable sights, ambidextrous grips etc.

Glock could add adjustable sights and a target grip to the gun and get it in....but there's not enough of a potential market to bother.

Addendum:  I'm not suggesting that a Glock is cheaply made, Andre.  I said it got stopped by the same law, the gun control act of 1968 and its later offspring, that was intended to stop cheap guns from coming in.  One part of that law/laws addressed cheaply made guns that were made of alloys that melted below 800 degrees.  It was intended to stop zinc alloy German guns like the Rohm's etc but it stopped Glock polymer guns as well.  They didn't meet the temp test and so were banned.  All Glocks were, a lot of Walthers were, all military surplus replicas (the Chinese Tok, the Rohm Luger etc) were.

Glock had to make a US subsidiary to import its guns with add on parts to meet the import laws and then, once in the US, the US subsidiary would restore them to previous condition.  Walther made a new US subsidiary, too.  Norinco drilled their pistols for safeties and added cheesy "target style" grips to get theirs in.  Rohm added "adjustable sights" that often came loose in the box, cheesy plastic "target grips" etc and sent just as many as before.

Glocks aren't cheaply made.  Walther's neither.  But they all got caught up in a stupid law that made little sense to anyone but the libdem gun grabbers.

  3. It's just the latest victim of the ignorant provisions of the GCA 68.

Look for the GCA 68 to be challenged in court soon due to the Heller decision, particularly if Mc Cain wins.

  4. This link explains why.

Basically in many countries the largest caliber allowed for civilians is the .380 ACP. So, Glock made a gun for use in those countries.

  5. in response to randkl:

I'd have to scratch my head at anyone who would accuse the reason a GLOCK wasnt imported to the US is that its a cheaply made Saturday night special... Glock isnt really known for cheap, watch the torture test.

would be what ya want instead ...:)

  7. Any pistol or revolver that is going to be imported into the United States has to score a certain number of points using ATFs factoring criteria for weapons. The Glock 25 does not score enough points.  The Model 26 and 27 while they are the same design and same physical size do score enough points because of the cartridges they use (9mm and .40 S&W, respectively).  The Glock 26 can be imported for use by government agencies

  8. It lacks points caliber-for-size for importation according to the criteria of the BTAF.  The same size larger caliber 9mm & .40 S&W do meet the minimum caliber-for-size importation requirements. Bureaucracy at work!

  9. H is probably right but it could be the fact that the .380 is a crappy round and we have enough of them already.
