  1. to be able to keep up with changing technology.....and to make the citiziens of our country more happy with our HDTV. :D works for me :)

    bring on TiVo in Australia!

  2. We get better TV pictures and they take some of the channels and sell them to cell phone companies so we can make more calls :)

  3. The transistion of TV from analog to digital is just one of those things that happens.

As most people will tell you, it is mostly so the FCC can free up some airwaves to make bandwidth available for all the extra stuff we're doing over wireless. Cell phone networks are expanding at an increasing rate and we're demanding more and more speed out of them. We're communicating over wireless so much more that we've simply run out of electromagnetic spectrum to cram everything.

Digital transmission is more efficient. It's not prone to the major interference analog transmission is and you can fit more in a digital signal than you can in an analog signal.

  4. Bandwidth

By making TV go from analog to digital, they free up a huge spectrum...which they can, in turn, use or sell

  5. so they can sell all the old stuff to other third world countries and make billion and billions on the stuff

  6. High Definition through the air broadcasts are available to every one via the UHF frequency band 55-862 mhz using a simple roof antenna and if you are lucky a indoor antenna will work in some locations. The new digital broadcasts are better in picture quality and sound .Even if you do not have a new TV with the ATSC HD tuner in it you everyone is eligible to apply for  a $20.00 coupon from the government that is redeemed at places like Radio Shack toward a purchase of a converter box. Many of your favorite channels will be able to broadcast more that one program at the same time in the digital relm. Digital is all good for TV.
