  1. You are lucky enough that it's not made of PVC as in Lego Toys!

  2. marble. was too expensive then..

  3. What other material was available 2000 years ago that would last until today and probably another 2000 years

  4. Jesus, questions like this just make me wanna kill myself.

Dirk, I like your creativity & the ability to BS

  5. Simple. Because its not made from something else. easy.

  6. If it was made of sand it would be the great beach of China and it would have been even harder to keep out the Mongol horde.  But they might have been able to sell more suncare products.

  7. Aluminum was hard to get

  8. probably because playdo came in small containers and would be to expensive to buy the number needed to construct such a big wall. plus it would take to many slaves to cart it to the wall site. .. as for why greenhouses are not made of cannabis .. I guess because no one would work and  the nearby headshop would run out of pipes. and papers. probably waterpipes also.

  9. ....stones were so simple to find

...they were everywhere....the stones fell from outer space

.."One day, while puffing on a pipefull of top quality opium, it was revealed that the stones were considerd significant and thusly the Xi'an Emperor devised a secret plan to build an invisible wall of the space stones"

...for many periods of repressive dynastic feudalsim the invisible wall controlled soil erosion and also helped corral many goats and chickens

....this wall made for many happy peasants, as well as, marioneted representatives of the highly centralized rulers of the various fifedoms located along the area of the magic wall

....even peasants whose meaningless existences were overjoyed to allow themselves to be killed in arrangment of the highly valued space stones

....by today's standards the wall's effect had no bearing whatsoever upon the overall outcome of history....the fifedom is status quo to this day

  10. What other material would you suggest they had used?  2000 years ago, that was pretty much the strongest building material.

  11. It wouldn't be a wall if it wasn't made of stone, would it?

  12. The Great Wall is actually several walls built at different times and out of a wide range of building materials. What they used to build it with depended mainly on what was available locally. Most ot the Great Wall that tourists usually see (eg the Badalung pass and the wall near Beijing) is made out of very hard bricks. It just looks like partly dressed stone because of the colour - but it's bricks and cement!!

  13. Good one! Of course, had it been in Greece, where they had quite a tradition of breaking plates, I suppose it would have been something useful to make out of all the shards.

  14. It,s more durable than marshmallows.

  15. I heard it was made of recycled toilets.

  16. The wall was originally made from wood and then was upgraded to stone. The wall is too large to be made of anything stronger and remember the wall was built by hand.

  17. It would'nt be GREAT if it was made out of Bamboo now would it?

  18. If they used wood instead, China would be a big black dot on the globe.

  19. it is to keep the barbarians out, so using recyle paper is not a good idea

  20. bamboo was not strong enough.
