  1. It's just cool. You can't explain it. But I'll give you some facts about it! It was originally "invented" by a bavarian king (I think it was King Ludwig the second, but I am not sure about that at all!) as a place for his people to eat, drink and meat up to discuss important issues while not having to pay enormous amounts of money for a meal. It has beautiful architecture, frescos, loads of room to meet, a lot of "Stammtische" (a certain group of people meets once a week/once a month at a certain day and time), and it is right in the middle of town.

Up to this day, it is owned by the Bavarian state, and among all the restaurants in Munichs inermost city, it is among the cheapest, so that ordinary Munich people can still come and afford to go and meet up/have their "Stammtisch" there. It is a restaurant for the Bavarian people, first and foremost. So it still holds up the flag of original "Bayerische Gemütlichkeit", or at least what tourists think that to be. So Tourists flock into the "Hofbräuhaus", because it is so original, and Bavarians go there, because it is the oldest, the coolest, the cheapest, and the most bavarian institution you /they can think of.

Well, that, and the kind of creepy feeling, because Hitler spoke there repeatedly, and it's one of the places that outlived that. (Bürgerkeller was destroyed)

Did you know that the people (two brothers) who are managing the "Hofbräuhaus" right now are the first to take over management from their parents ever in the history of the establishment? A comitte of Bavarian state officials decides who gets to manage it for every ten years (of course the people managing it can reaply.)

The "Hofbräuhaus" also has a dinner for the homeless (free of cost) on Christmas eve every year. It is than closed for other visitors, and serves the homeless all day.
