i used to expect daily reports on the humidex from tv weather reports given in the ottawa valley at news time. it was the forecasters who gave me the word humidex which as i understood was how hot and humid the temperature really was as opposed to say just 30 celcius.

  1. I've never heard of the "humidex".  Do you mean the heat index, which is a combination of the air temperature and the relative humidity?  If so, it is usually added into the forecast only during periods of extreme heat and humidity, not routinely.

    Additional Response:

Ah, they do things a bit differently there as opposed to the U.S., but it does sound as if you are talking about what we know as the Heat Index here.  Why they stopped doing it there I am not sure.
