Why is the media making such a big deal out of Sarah Palin's pregnant daughter?

First of all, I don't see why it's any of their business. Yes, she's young. Yes, she made a mistake. But, atleast she's taking responsibility for it and not taking the easy way out. What does her daughter's pregnancy have anything to do with how Palin will lead our country?

I just don't think it's fair for them to keep attacking this young girl who already has so much going on in her life.

I asked this in the pregnancy and parenting section because I like all of you and this is the section where I spend most of my time, and wanted to know what you ladies thought about this??

I'm seventeen and pregnant....I know that I made a mistake but if i felt responsible enough to have     I should be responsible enough to give up my teen years and take care and love my child with all the love God gave me to give him....The bottom line is simple PPL Make mistakes TEENAGERS make mistakes. This is no different just because shes the future vice presidents daughter. Their just having a     y fit because they can't find anything else on her.

It's not anyone's personal business no...but when u put yourself in the spotlight, your family is going to subjected to scrutiny.  That's the way of the world.

I wouldn't say a shotgun wedding is "taking responsibility" but whatever...

There are other things about her character they are digging up.  As much as people talked about Jamie Lynn and just any other teen getting pregnant, they are going to do the same to her AND her mother.  Nothing makes her exempt.

*even if her mom wasn't running for VP, she would still be enduring the talk, just not on a smaller scale.  since her mom doesn't believe in abortion, doesn't seem like that would be have been an option for her anyway, and if anyone found out (it can happen) it would reflect negatively on mommy also.

They need something to talk about.  Too bad everyone cant just talk about what good they are going to do instead of just bashing on the other party.

Why are the media making big deal?  It is for the exact same reason as why Paris going to jail was a news.  It is for the same reason why Britney's trouble was broadcasted for days.  It is for the same reason why Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction was the number one talk of the TV for weeks.  It is the same reason why reporters keep asking the victim of crimes 'what do you think?'

Unfortunately, media no longer cares abut integrity and personal privacy.  It is all about what gets the viewer's attention.  They could care less about the importance of the story or the personal trauma of the people involved.

Coupled to this, this is political scene.  If there is nothing to talk about, they make them up.  This is just so convenient to talk about.  They came forward with it.

Yes, it is very wrong...  she should be left alone.  It is a personal matter.  Some of us care... THEY don't.  

If everybody stopped watching this kind of trashy tabloid behavior from major medias, they will stop.  However, enough of the population do watch (sadly).

because she's 17, because she's unwed, because she's the daughter of a political nominee. and because they have nothing else to talk about so they want to make a big deal out of something to fill their 30 minutes on the camara.

It has to do with Sarah Palin's political views. She is anti-aborition but her view of birth control is abstinence. It also has to do with her religious views and that her child had s*x before marriage. It's not so much on her daughter but about how Sarah Palin has told the United States her political views and governed her state with an Abstinence-Only education and then her child gets pregnant.

You're kidding right? An unmarried seventeen year old daughter of the v.p. is pregnant? That is a dream story for the press. Not as good as Bill's bj in  the white house, but still pretty sensational.

I totally agree.  If anything, it gives me more confidence that as a potential leader of our country, she will stand for the values I support.  She isn't just a politician that "says" she's pro-life...she's a mother who is living it!  She has a special needs son that she chose to give birth to despite the challenges she knew it would bring, and she has a daughter who is giving the life she created a chance to thrive :)  I know that Palin actually BELIEVES in the pro-life fight rather than it just being a political position to get elected by, which makes me support her all the more!

I admire the fact that no one can call her a hypocrite and I totally intend to vote for McCain and Palin in November :)

Because it IS a big deal.  Palin is a conservative in the spotlight who has an unwed pregnant teen.  This reflects on Palin herself.  It's also sending the wrong message.

I personally think that she is loading up her own plate and I will have to wonder about her leadership skills since she supports a teen marriage. A pregnancy mistake is one thing..but marriage? Marriage at that age is pretty much destined to fail.

Because liberals always need to criticize conservatives. Lol, Obama mom was pregnant at about the same age and wasn't married. Lol, Obama might not even be an American citizen. Supposedly he was maybe born in Kenya. No one is checking Obama's Background!

      You're right, it is exagerated coverage of the  daughter of a candidate.   Leave the children  of candidates alone.  

        If their is a story, it is that this girl is being put under a magnifing glass (by the liberal media) during a very difficult and personal time in her life.

       It sounds like the Palen's have a very loving, understanding family life.

The big deal is that Palin is against s*x education and preaches abstinence.  This kinda seems to prove a bit of a point.  Obviously her way doesn't work if her daughter is pregnant.  Maybe if the poor girl was educated she would have not done it or atleast used condoms.  How can Palin stick to this with the proof right in her face?  The attack is not meant to be against the daughter, its against Palin.
