Because he's a god! He's the greatest olympian in history! he's humble, fast, talented, amazing in every single way, and HOTT!! the hottest thing i've ever seen in my life! he's won 14 total gold medals, of course everyone is obsessed with him!

because he's done what no other man has done before. I think its very good, however, he is taking ALL of the credit. i know he didnt ask for this though... i think even HE wouldn't want it to be like this

Because he made olympic history with the most gold medals in one olympics.. broken lots of records .. the most gold medals and he isnt some ugly rock. hes nice to look at [;

and i think he deserves is  501% if you trained as hard and as long as he did wouldnt you like so regonition too?

Its the only sport where you can actually win that many medals. Steve Redgrave is still the greatest olympian of all time. 5 Gold Medals over 5 DIFFERENT OLYMPICS!

Lots of reasons... the (summer) Olympics only come once every 4 yrs, Phelps has broken a bunch of records, and holds the most golds ever- pretty much made Olympic history. And hes not bad to look at either. Hehe

He's an american athlete too, nobody here would really care if some dude from a different country won all the medals...

Because even stating his name draws more viewers to there channel and unfortunately, that's all they care about..  Jason Lezak is almost as good as Phelps and saved his butt during both of the relays and he got absolutely no credit at all.

I mean he is the best athlete the olympics have ever seen until now, with the most GM's. So i wouldn't be surprise, even if they gave him an ancient Athens uniform to wear and symbolize the olympics

because he is a phenomenal swimmer and having just won his 8th gold medal is surrounded in controversy already.  I have heard and read everything from the suit he wore allowed him to cheat, to taking drugs and not going to be able to pass the blod/urine tests... and of course you can't forget that swimming is "the easiest sport to win a medal and beat a world record in."  The point is that he is an exceptional athlete that has managed to win 8 gold medals in a single Olympics which no other Olympian has been able to accomplish.  

I am happy he won, think he is a great swimmer that proves you can make your dreams come true with enough focus and dedication, and hope to see him swim again in 2012.

Because he's the most decorated athlete in Olympic history, he's got a good, wholesome image, and a lotttt of girls would like to bang him.

Maybe because he has past the acheivments of the previous record holder Mark Spitz....Many said it couldn't be done..
