  1. If the moon is about 45 degrees or so away from the sun, and the sky is clear without haze, you should be able to see the moon without trouble.

Since the whole arc of the sky is 180 degrees, if you subtract 45 degrees from each side of the sun, that  still leaves 90 degrees of sky that the moon could be in and still be visible.   The moon would be somewhere in that 90 degrees, for about 7 or 8  days out of every 29 days.

  2. The moon constantly orbits the earth.  It take about one month to go all the way around the earth.  That means that from your perspective- Indiana or anywhere, The moon will appear to be in the Daytime sky, nighttime sky, or both depending on what time of the month it is.  You are just more likely to NOTICE the sun at night because it is dark.  Every month the moon is visible during daylight hours at some point.  You just have never noticed it before.

Look at the sky at 2:00 in two weeks,  I promise the moon won't be there.
