Question:

Why is the music on LAUNCHcast so high-pitched? Can I fix it so it's normal?

Okay, so I was listening to LAUNCHcast today for the first time in a while, and I began to notice that the guys' voices were a little high. I hadn't heard the songs before, though, so I just shrugged and figured that's how it was supposed to be. Later, though, a song I knew came on. The voices were WAY higher than they were supposed to be, and the singer sounded like a chipmunk! What's wrong? Is it supposed to be like this? If not, can I fix it? I tried clicking 'Standard' quality insteadh of 'High', but it wouldn't click.

  1. Yeah that's definitely a problem on your computer, not Yahoo!  You may need to remove and install Jukebox again, or maybe your sound card has some issues.  I suppose the speakers could be problematic, but it isn't as likely as the sound card or a faulty installation.

  2. Several things to try.  You can play Launchcast Radio under Yahoo Music Jukebox and Yahoo Messenger (with the Launchcast plug-in).  See if the latter sources have the same problem.  You might also try upgrading to Windows Media Player 11 (WMP 11).  Launchcast uses WMP.  Here's the download site:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows...

As a side note, Launchcast plays at Standard Quality unless you are have paid for Launchcast Plus or YMJ Unlimited.

If none of the above resolves the issue, try creating another Yahoo id and see if you have the same problem.  Also, you should establish a baseline.  By that I mean verify using AOL radio or some other non-Yahoo streaming radio source whether the music sounds right.  If it doesn't, then that would indicate some problem with your sound card or sound adjustments.  For example, maybe you have some software that has turned the treble too high or has an equalizer setting that is distorting all your sounds.  Also, maybe the sound drivers for your sound card need updating.  Try using Windows Update and click Custom and see if there are any hardware updates for your sound card.  Good luck.
