The number 8 in China means wealth. It's a really lucky number. (that's why so many Chinese are getting married on the 8th and so many Chinese are happy that the Olympics are beginning on the 8th)

you know what's funny? in India, the number 8 is really unlucky. :P

8 in chinese is pronounced as ba, which in cantonese sounds like fa which translates to fortune.

Also the 8 trigram, which is a divine symbol has 8 sides. lt is often used in geomancy tablets and spiritiual mirrors, which relate to causing beneficial changes.

There are other meanings, these are the only ones off the top of my thinking cap.
