Why is the orange light on the tower constantly blinking even when I am not using it?

It blinks constantly this am. Even when I got up from the computer and stood in the doorway it still blinked.What does this mean and what can I do about it?Many thanks

are you shutting down the pc or just putting it on standby?

Make sure that you choose shutdown-

If all else fails just hit the power switch on the back or unplug it-

If it's the modem light and it usually only does it when you're downloading, then it's probably Windows auto-downloading an update.

That's just the hard drive light.  There are many programs operating in the background that makes windows work, and some of them need to read information from the hard drive.  It's nothing to worry about.  Most of the time it's the search indexer, indexing your data for quick search results.
