My phoneline is fine when I only have the phone plugged into the line, but as soon as i plug in the dsl filter and the wireless modem (speedtouch 576), the line becomes so bad that you basically can't hear the person on the other end speak unless you unplug the modem from the power outlet completely.

  1. I'm not sure if I understand exactly how you have things set up, but your phone should be plugged into the dsl filter which is plugged into the phone line. Your wireless modem should be plugged into the phone line directly. So you need 2 phone jacks or a splitter (if you only have one jack).

If this is how you already have it set up, it could be a bad dsl filter. If you are using a cordless phone that is 2.4GHz  that could be causing interference as well. Switching to a phone that is 5.8GHz would solve the problem if that was the case.

  2. The purpose of the DSL filter is to block the DSL signals from reaching/interfering  with your telephone.  So, you need to be sure the filters are correctly used and connected.

If you use a "Line Splitter", or "Y-splitter",  (no filter built-in)  before the Modem, then a separate DSL filter should be in-line with the phone, but no filtering before the DSL Modem itself.

If a Y-filter (splitter with built-in filter for phone jack) was supplied with your DSL Modem, be sure the Modem  is connected to the correct jack on the splitter (not reversed with the telephone only jack).

Every telephone in the house, requires a separate DSL filter in-line with them to filter DSL noise from each phone used.

But, the modem itself does not use any filter in-line with its input.

And, yes test with a non-wireless phone to eleminate interference conflict possibilites between cordless phone and wireless router.

  3. you have dialup, and your getting the noise that your computer is making as it is online. disconnect from the internet and then use the phone.
