All the Planets, Moons and the Sun in our Solar System are spherical, what causes the planets, moons, etc., to take this shape during their formation?

  1. Earth, and planets, are oblate spheroids due to the conservation of angular momentum, which states that as an object spins matter is conserved to a central point.

There are a lot of people who are very condescending on here and don't know what the h**l they are talking about

  2. gravity

  3. because it started as a huge jagged rock and because it spins so fast, it has become smooth and round....like when u roll bread in your hand.

  4. because their cool like that...

  5. Gravitational forces.

  6. On Earth. It's the polar ice caps. <}:-})

  7. Due to the force of gravity acting on matter, it(matter) finds itself in the most stable state when spherical, becuase force is then applied equaly to all "sides". Gravity also goes against itself though, in spinning bodies, buldges at center.

  8. Gravity. During formation, gravity pulls all parts of the object as close as it can to the center. But all the celestrial bodies are NOT spherical! Because of rotation, the bodies are wider at their equator than their poles (i.e., equatorial diameter is greater than polar diameter). This is true even for our Earth, and bodies that rotate fast (like Jupiter) have an even greater elipse cross-section. And NOT all bodies are even oval; most bodies in our solar system are irregular-shaped because they do not have enough gravity to make them round (for example, the potato-shaped asteroids).

  9. Gravity pull itself together evenly.  The bigger the planet, the greater the gravity.

  10. hmmmmmmmmm they probably morphed that way after being in space so long moving around and since they're just going around in circles the started to get that round shape. I don't think its because if it was square we wouldn't fall of i mean come on who's fallen off a flat surface. And if that was the point of not having a square planet so why did we get a round one? We'd fall of easier and the only reason we're still on the earth is because gravity.

  11. Cuz God created them this way cuz it makes sense. I mean, c'mon, a cube planet? You'd fall off!

  12. cuz they are :]
