  1. they do this to round it off to the nearest dollar point,they have always done that,to me it would make more sense to just have it at an even price,but the main reason they do this is the margin of error,their is always a small margin of error on pumping gas,either with the pump or the readings,it still doesn't make a lot of sense though,but i was told this by a guy who delivers for shell oil company once,it made about as much sense as anything else does,good luck.


  2. Way back when:  19.9¢ looks better than 20¢.

    Today:  $4.499 may or may not look better than $4.50, but it's tradition.

  3. It is a marketing gimmick to make you think it costs less than it does.
