I am writing a paper on the subject, and I have my own theories, I would just like to hear some other ideas on why people become fascinated with people like Al Capone, etc...

  1. Moral inhibition creates fantasies of unfair immoral advantage. If only we could be free and evil, we would have the world at our fingertips. The paradox is there are systems in place that prevent us from developing this, but yet we still believe if we could still break through the trawler net we could live well in infamy.

  2. I think it's about power and money. These big mob guys can do what they want, when they want. At least this is what the media has protrayed.

  3. moral suppression that has been lead by societal conformity made our ego to suppress the idea of performing criminal acts, hence we manifest such ideas through fantasy and imagination..
