Question:

Why is the pull cord on my ceiling fan getting stuck?

When I pull the cord to turn the light off on my ceiling fan, it often gets stuck, and I have to work with it to turn the light off. I'm afraid that I'm going to pull too hard, and the whole thing is going to come down on me. Is there a way to fix it?

  1. it might be rusty this is easy all you have to do is spray wd-40 not veggie oil or even a new fan or just a new pull cord.

  2. Veg oil gets gooey and sticky ( been there ).

If you have an urge to spray it - use WD 40. ( silicone ).

Most likely you are going to need to replace the switch.  As long as it is accessible, you can get a replacement at an appliance parts store.

  3. The cord may slowly be getting rusty/dirty. Or the round ring from which it slides through is wearing out. Yes you can replace it by removing the entire unit, and accessing that specific location. Try (if not to high) hold your arm as high as you can reach up, then pulling outward away from the fan. It's obvious it doesn't want to cooperate by pulling down, so try out. You basically want the chain as horizontal from the fan as possible. Remember that spray silicone(best spray) is temporary. Good luck

  4. try spraying some veg oil on it :-)
