Why is the "Bangalore Bus stand" & surrounding areas called "Majestic"?

The area where the "Kempegowda bus terminus" is located is called Magestic. Where did this name come from?

  1. One of the oldest and prominent landmarks of the area is Majestic theatre located in the area, which make the surrounding areas, as they grew, known as Majestic. Much before the current hustle-bustle in the area (may be over 5 decades ago), the Majestic theatre came into existence in the area and then onwards it became convenient for the people to identify the area by the name of the theatre. These kind of naming and identification is quite common in many Indian cities / towns.

  4. As others said, it is due to the name of the Majestic Hotel. Now it is officiallly known as 'Kempe Gowda Bus Stand."

  5. The name Majestic was the name of an old Movie Theatre located at that place.  The whole area, where the bus stand is located is known as Majestic.
