Why is the "R" backwards on Toys R Us and Babies R Us?

I work at Babies R Us but no one can give me a good reason of y the r is backwards except for ceativity. any ideas?

    It's just a logo.

  4. If you've ever seen a young child trying to write then they're just learning you'd know they often write letters backwards. So since these stores are all about children's products they've duplicated that as a way to identify more with their market and as a way to make a distinctive logo.

  5. Its a creative marketing angle in photoshop we learned a lot about marketing and how certain companies use memorable logos, like the weird little cingular man blob, and the Nike brand logo. Most of our class could identify most of the companies by the logos or things like just seeing the backwards R make you think "hey lets go to toys r us!"

    and then they changed some Geoffry's and people think it was to be politically correct about the whole teaching kids to write the R backwards thing.
