  5. It's been a long time since I read Orwell in school;  but I would say that it was sheer force of numbers.  The hard part was not the rebellion, but making the decision to rebel.

    I have a theory that the animals were a great temptation to popularize the work for children;  but the politics got in the way.  What child could but weep for the fate of the loyal Boxer?
