  3. The shape has a lot to do with the activities it has to be able to perform.  You have to be able to pass the ball at high speed, make it stand on one edge to kick it and drop it and be able to grip the ball when throwing in at line outs.

    The oval shaps allows for all these,  The shape makes it more aerodynamic and allows for easy placement for an attempt at goal.  It also makes the hookers job very easy when throwing in at line outs.

  4. It is because it is a good shape to catch and throw. But also because rugby was invented in the olden days through football, the balls were of poor quality so they often turned oval so they couldn't play football, hence the invention of rugby!
