Im watching a global warming show right now. there plan is to cover greenland in a giant blanket to reflect the suns energy. a huge arctic summer storm just hit causing the temperature to drop to -20 degrees. slowing progress...... this is dumbest thing I have ever seen in my life. tell me how Ice can melt in -20 degrees? I am at a loss for words here there is so many thing wrong here on so many levels. why does the science channel have to air such nonsense?

  1. It's been known as Greenland for about 5-6 hundred years. Now, if it always had snow on it, would it have been called Greenland? This is what is left of the mini ice-age we had about 500 years ago so I am thinking the temps are coming back to what they used to be.

Funny thing is, they have found little settlements beneath that ice that age to about 500 years ago. I think we are just getting back to what the temps used to be. Warming, yes. Calamity, no.

  2. Because people who believe in AGW are shown to be less than bright, and will believe what ever is flashed on the screen in bright pretty colors and cool graphics.

  3. I watched it also..... a great comedy!  Obviously, it was done long before it was determined that there is no unnatural problem in the Arctic.  The program was/is definitely biased and selective in the information presented.  Reminded me of that other comedy.... 'an inconvenient truth'.

The only people who will fall for it are the 'Pilers' (those who seek safety in numbers, rather than daring to think for themselves).

  4. Air temperatures on the ice sheets are often well above freezing during the Arctic summers and land temperatures in the Arctic can reach 70 - 100 F.  Add to that the ocean water under the Arctic ice (clearly above freezing) and you should clearly understand how ice melts up there.

Before labeling a program or channel "stupid", you should read a little more on the subject.

  5. You should never question the powers of Mother Nature...

  6. I think what your trying to say is that it is an impractical solution.

  7. If the scientist said there is no problem they would be out of a job. I do not want any of my tax money going for that. Stay with it U know it is a lie to make money.

  8. the whole picture they are trying to show is that even if the temperature most of the time, the ice caps are still melting.  it makes you think that the temperature of greenland used to be cold all the time, how else do you form an enormous mile high chunk of ice.  the proof that greenland is melting obviously there, and the cause of the melting should be known by everyone.  this is where the huge blanket comes in, which personally i thought was a load of c**p, but like they said in the show, we are almost out of time to develop a perfect solution to our earth's problems.  the relief has to come from the present.  anyway, i think that it is a spectacular show and im really looking forward to next friday.

  9. Then please explain why the extent of arctic summer ice is shrinking year by year.

Explain why the greenland Ice cap is melting and why the antarctic ice cap is also melting.

All this in the absence of any increase in insolation from the sun, and also the obliquity of the earth's axis is decreasing, so the climate should be getting cooler.

  10. Hey I'm dying here.

I can't get the science channel here so I haven't seen this, but if what you are saying is correct, it somehow seems to fit in with the other lunacy that the doomsayers continue on with.

Are you sure that this blanket doesn't serve a dual purpose.

Look for a long electrical cord attached to it.

They may be preparing for the coming ice age, and it is actually a large electric blanket!

Sorry, I'm about to pee my pants right now!

    Good Luck!

  11. If you don't know how, and instead of learning, just call it stupid, then perhaps you should not be watching the science channel. Because ice can indeed subliminate directly to vapor when sun light hits it, no matter how cold it is.

Have you not ever taken food out of your freezer and seen that it has shrunk, because all the water went out of it?

  12. if your too ignorant to understand what they are saying, maybe you just shouldnt watch it.

  13. Subject: IT IS NOT GLOBAL WARMING, BUT IT IS A SHIFT IN CLIMATE ZONES DUE TO THE DECREASE IN THE EARTH'S OBLIQUITY

    > The earth's obliquity Angle decreases by 0.47" each

    > year, which changes the focus of the sun's radiation

    > on earth, resulting in climate shifts. As the

    > obliquity angle decreases, the hemispheres change in

    > the north becoming warmer.  When the obliquity angle

    > reaches about 22 degrees, it will start to go the

    > other way and the north will get colder again and the

    > south will become warmer.  Obviously, and counter to

    > Al Gores unlearned theories, the warming of the

    > northern hemisphere cannot be stopped by man.  It will

    > stop and reverse itself.  Then the climate shifts we

    > presently experience will be goin the other way.  It

    > is pure logic applied to astro-physical law.

    >

    > It has long been recognized that rather than staying

    > constant, obliquity varies slowly with time as a

    > result of external gravitational influences. The Moon

    > rise to the familiar 26,000-year astronomical

    > precession, while the gravitational pull of other

    > the orientation of the ecliptic plane in space. The

    > combined effect observed by Earth dwellers is an

    > ~41,000-year oscillation in the obliquity with overall

    > amplitude typically of about 2°. This oscillation is

    > one of the three Milankovitch cycles that ultimately

    > affect our long-term climatic system and serve as the

    > pacemaker of ice ages. The present-day obliquity

    > happens to be close to the mean value, and we are in

    > the middle of a downswing (see figure (1)). In terms

    > of real distance on the Earth's surface, one should

    > see a slow equatorward shift of the tropics by 14.4 m

    > a year-well over 1 km in a century!

  14. Its called sublimation.   Going directly from a solid- ice- to a gas.   It happens when the humidity of the air is very low.   The colder the better for it to work.    You said a storm hit.   What was the weather like before then?   I'm guessing sunny and warmer.
