it's not David, it's Davy.  Cuz there's some legend that he drowned, so it's Davy Jones' locker (coffin)

I do not believe it is called David Jones.  It is called Davy Jones Locker and it is the bottom that is the graveyard of the lost sailors.  The orgin is unknown but you can find it listed in Heritage Dictonary and in poems and songs of the sea.
