  1. because the water from rivers are fresh from the melting snow in the mountains, duh


  2. The salt in the sea came from the rivers flowing into it.  Over millions of years, the small amount of salt in the rivers accumulates in the sea; fresh water evaporates from the sea (leaving the salt behind), forms clouds, then rains on land and washes more salt into the sea via the rivers.
