well first off because that's the way God made it and second because in the day time the sun is shining and it makes it bright and at night it's not, so obviously it's gonna be dark...

Well at night, we don't get any sunlight, so all we see is the black void of space through the transparent atmosphere.

During the day, the sun rays hit the atmosphere at a certain angle, hitting the air and the water vapor in it. The atmosphere then acts as a prism, dividing the white light into different colors, and at the angle it hits the atmosphere, we see it blue. It is for the same reason that we see the sky as being orange, pink or purple at sunrise and sunset, because of the angle at which the sunlight hits our atmosphere.
