That is the part of the visible spectrum less absorbed by the atmosphere.

At higher altitudes the color becomes a much darker blue.

Light in the visible spectrum is composed of red, green and blue, and everything in between. when we see color, we are simply seeing the color of light that is reflecting off of that object- all other colors are absorbed. when we see the sky and see it as blue, it is simply because a certain wavelength of light from the sun is reflecting off the air in the atmosphere, which we see as blue.

I'm just kidding, God painted it that way.

because the ocean is blue and it reflects off the ocean and space is a realllllllyyy dark blueish color and our atmosphere makes it a little lighter, so u see blue
