Question:

Why is the sound so low coming out of my dvr cable box when everything else sounds great?

I have a 5.1 speaker set up with everything going into the stereo/amplifier. Everything sounds great and can never even come close to being turned up all the way without the cops being called. Except, the Cablevision Dvr box. The Scientific Atlanta Explore 8300HD. I have to turn the stereo up about 15 to 20 digits higher in order to hear the cable. The cable box volume is not "fixed" on the contrary, the box itself is turned all the way up. It's just a pain, for when I switch to my mp3 or ps3. The volume is almost always cranked from previously watching cable. I just want the sound levels to be pretty much the same or much closer. I can't seem to figure it out. Can anyone relate?

  1. Have you tried rebooting the cable box? Unplug it for a minute, then plug it back in and wait for the correct time to be displayed (can take awhile). If that doesn't fix it, check all your connections and, if you can, try an hdmi cable. After that, I'd say the box has a problem (which would be no surprise) and needs to be swapped out for a new one.

  2. yes i can relate with that. I have my Time Warner Cable DVR box connected to my stereo and its the same as u but when I listen to DVDs thru my stereo I put the volume at no higher than 48 but when I listen to cable thru my stereo I have to turn it up too about 60 or higher and when I have it on at 69 which is the max its still not as loud as if i was listening to my DVD player or CDs. Its happening because DVDs, CDs, and MP3s are digital and some of the cable stations (usually the ones under 100) are analog not digital. Hopefully when the change in Feb 09 comes when all channels have to be in digital, our problems will go away.
