Why is the sports media less biased than the news media?

If some underdog wins a sporting match "they call it an upset" but if someone wins a poll that they didn't expect to win, it is called spamming.

We're talking about the results of a game -- fact -- versus the results of a survey that may or may not be scientific. Two different animals.
