So the people of today can understand what morality is and why it is important to a large section of the population.  Isn't morality important to you?  The lack of morality is not exclusive to politicians or ministers like one of the other answerers stated.  Don't forget the priests!

Three answers:

1.  The comparative study of morality:  

By studying the differences between the sets of moral rules that different societies use  we can get a better understanding  of the faults and benefits of our own society's values.

2. The historical study of morality:

In analysing the development of our own society's moral world we can understand more fully the reasons why we have come to be the kind of people we are.

3. Both approaches then give us a deeper understanding about how to judge our own moral schema and thus to be able to consider which moral rules need to be obeyed and which ones should be challenged.

Because when old f**t philosophers get old and lose their heart and can't feel, they don't know right from wrong anymore.

So that those who don't know how to be moral at least know how to talk about morality so they can lie better and become politicians (or ministers.)

Because it's important to recognize the intrinsic value of morality in actions. We are slowly getting to a point where we need more than a dictated morality (God) to govern us, and so we need to be educated on morality for its own sake. This is basically what Nietzsche was talking about when he said "God is dead".
