Why is the summer hotter in FLorida than New York?

I just went to Florida and noticed that it's a lot hotter there than New York. Why?

  1. Florida is generally hotter because it is closer to the equator.

  4. Closer to equator means it gets more direct sunlight, so its hotter...

  5. Im not sure that is always true.  But FLorida is closer to the equator and gets sun at a more direct angle than NY...(at least that's the way I understand it)
