It's the worst place you could have it!

Every single year it rains....

Shouldn't the winner have it held in their own country or something like that?

I've just never understood why it's always in London.

I live in London.... just so you know.

  1. There is no such thing as a tennis championship.  Wimbledon is a tournament just like all other tournaments.  Tournaments do not change locations unless the sponsor and/or organizers decide to do so.

  2. "The Championships, Wimbledon", arguably, the most prestigious tournament of the Grand Slam series, are held at the venerable "AELTC" (All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club) and, as such, is unlikely to change its venue or to have any other venue replace it any time in the near future!

Unfortunately, the rain in London falls mainly on the grass throughout the year; less in February, but I doubt that most players or spectators would be willing to show up for the significantly colder temperatures!

As for the winner having the subsequent championship held in his/her country - - rarely done in any sport - - it's a nice thought, but you are assuming only one champion comes out of the tournament.  Where should the subsequent championship be played if the male and female champions are in different countries? What if neither champion appears to defend his/her title, much less have any of that nation's other tennis players attend? What if that country doesn't have a suitable tennis facility? Need I go on?
